42ND ANNUAL NATIONAL CME IN PATHOLOGY, 2024
The 42nd Annual National CME was organized by department of Pathology, J. N. Medical College under hospices of KAHER which was scheduled from 16th to 17th October 2024. A total of 149 delegates attended the CME. There were 7 enriched resource persons who were also from various parts of India.
Dr. Swarnalata Gourishankar, Senior Consultant Histopathologist, Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad received Dr. M. R. Parthasarathy & Dr. A. V. Ramaprasad Silver Plaque Oration award. Dr. Megha Uppin, Senior Consultant Histopathologist, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad received Dr. S. J. Nagalotimath Memorial Excellence in Teaching award.
The scientific sessions in the CME included various lectures & slide seminars. Various topics were covered, which includes -
- Molecular techniques & their utility in scientific oncology
- Approach to renal biopsies
- Thyroid tumors
- Non-neoplastic liver pathology
- Histiocytic & dendritic cell lesions
- Flow cytometry
- Gynaec & non-gynaec cytology slide seminars
- Interesting cases in Pathology
All these sessions had been interactive sessions. All the resource persons shared their vast experience and expertise. The sessions were highly appreciated by all the delegates who participated enthusiastically in the slide seminars. The delegates gave good feedback regarding overall conduct of the CME. All the arrangements, the scrumptious food, the speakers & the sessions covered. The CME was concluded as a success story.
AIPNA - ICP INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN PATHOLOGY 2025
The 30th AIPNA ICP conference was hosted by Department of Pathology, J. N. Medical College, Belagavi under auspices of KAHER which was scheduled from 7th to 9th February 2025. The theme of the conference was “Pathology in the Digital Era: Bridging Morphology, Molecular insights and AI”. The Conference Souvenir was released during the inaugural function.
A total of 265 delegates from 15 different states of India had registered for the conference. There were 19 enriched resource persons of national and international repute. The conference sessions included various lectures, slide seminars, round table discussions and quiz. Wide range of topics were covered during these sessions, which included recent advances in hematology, cytology, histopathology with emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Pathology.
All the resource persons shared their vast experience and expertise. The sessions were highly appreciated by all the delegates who participated enthusiastically in all the sessions.
Dr. Nirag Jhala, Chief of Oncologic Pathology, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, received Dr. S. J. Nagalotimath and Dr. Vijay V. Joshi Oration award. Dr. Arun Govind Gujar delivered a talk on Eminent Indian Pathologist - Professor Y. M. Bhende.
There was scope for poster presentation for post graduate students and faculty with 125 poster presentations. Best 25 posters were awarded incentives by ICP. J. N. Medical College, Belagavi also awarded top 2 posters for each category. Post graduate quiz was also conducted and witnessed with enthusiastic participation from post graduate students in large numbers. The delegates gave good feedback regarding overall conduct of the conference. All the arrangements, the scrumptious food, the speakers & the sessions covered. 20TH ANNUAL PATHOLOGY CME 2025
CME on "Hematology Updates" was conducted on the 1st of March 2025. The CME was designed to include lectures on various aspects of Hematology by experts in this field. The CME was conducted to help postgraduates and teaching faculty to have a better understanding of applied aspects of laboratory Hematology and its quality control. A total number of 249 delegates had registered for the CME.
Session 1 - “Cell Counter - Graphical data - The Core in a Patient's Diagnosis” by Dr. Pradeep Kumar V., Consultant Pathologist and Head, Hematopathology, Neuberg Anand Laboratory, Bangalore. This talk was on the basics of interpretation of Scatterplots and histograms.
Session 2 - “Basics of Flow Cytometry” by Dr. Sandeep Rao, Director, Laboratory Services, HCG NCHRI Oncology, Bangalore. This session covered the components of a flow cytometer, Fluidics, Fluorochromes and optics of Flow cytometer.
Session 3 - “Quality Control in Hematology” by Dr. Joy Mammen, Professor, Department of IHBT, CMC Vellore. This session was on the quality aspects like accuracy, precision, Westgard rules.
Session 4 - “Flow Cytometry in Hematolymphoid malignancies: Case based discussion” by Dr. Sandeep Rao, Director, Laboratory Services, HCG NCHRI Oncology, Bangalore. This session covered the antigen expression profile, markers used in acute leukemia, AML with NPM1 mutation, Erythroleukemia and TP53, B- ALL with flow aberrancies.
Session 5 - “Bone marrow – Integrated Approach – The Why and How of interpretation” by Dr. Pradeep Kumar V., Consultant Pathologist and Head, Hematopathology, Neuberg Anand Laboratory, Bangalore. This session was on bone marrow findings in hematological diseases along with case-based discussion.
Session 6 - “Lab Diagnosis of hemolytic Anemia” by Dr. Kumar C., Professor, East Point Medical College, Bangalore. This session covered the classification of hemolytic anemia, laboratory investigations performed for intravascular and extravascular hemolytic anemias.
CME ON "PRECISE DIAGNOSIS OF ALLERGY"
The Department of Pathology at CDSIMER and EUROLine organized a CME "Precise Diagnosis of Allergy" on 8th November 2024. There was a video demo by EURPIMMUN. After tea break, Dr. Vijaya V. Mysorekar, Professor of Pathology, CDSIMER, delivered introductory talk on Allergy. This was followed by presentation on "Diagnosis of Allergic Disorders" by Mr. Lakshmikanthan T. Post lunch session was a demonstration of Allergy panel testing by EVERLIFE in the Central Laboratory, F block, CDSIMER. The event was highly successful with over 80 delegates participating.
WORLD CANCER DAY
Department of Pathology in collaboration with Department of Community Medicine, KAHER’s JGMMMC Hubballi conducted role play competitions on eve of World Cancer Day for IInd phase MBBS students on 4th February 2025 to raise awareness regarding cancer symptoms, treatment and preventive aspects. Phase II MBBS students (Batch 2023-24) participated enthusiastically in role play competition. Group 1 (Roll number 1-50, 151) had done role play on Cervical Cancer, Group 2 (Roll number 51-100, 152) on Oral Cancer and Group 3 (Roll number 101-150, 153) on Colon Cancer. Group 1 secured 1st prize. On 14th February 2025, role play on cervical cancer was enacted in Adargunchi village to create awareness among the community.
CME ON BIOPSY INTERPRETATION
A state level CME on Biopsy interpretation on Genitourinary, GIT and Liver with E-poster presentation on 5th April 2025 tiled ”Microscopic clues: What your biopsy is trying to say”. 150 delegates had registered. "The Eyes Do Not See, What Mind Does Not Know". Making a reliable diagnosis from a biopsy has been a challenge due to multiple practical limitations. This CME provided an insight to overcome the challenges, pitfalls, while reporting on a biopsy.

GUEST LECTURE
A guest lecture by Dr. Anthony P., Director, Prime Healthcare Ltd., Dubai on "Quality control and quality assurance in laboratory management" was conducted on 16th December 2024. Dr. Anthony in his session discussed on pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical quality control measures. He stressed the need for the strict adherence to standardized protocols to minimize these errors. He addressed accreditation and certification, explaining the role of ISO and NABL in ensuring laboratory excellence.
